AUS Landing Fees

New general aviation landing fees at Austin-Bergstrom take effect October 1. A short, personal email to the people who decide can make a real difference — here's a starting point.

Why it matters

As written, the schedule is a flat $50 landing fee ($100 during F1, NASCAR, SXSW, and UT home-game weekends) on every aircraft up to 12,500 lbs — a Cessna 172 on a training flight is charged the same as a light jet. The ask below is narrow: exempt aircraft under 6,000 lbs, the primary and instrument trainer fleet, and keep the fee focused on the larger aircraft it was aimed at.

Make it yours — it works better

Council offices can spot a form letter immediately, and a message in your own words carries far more weight. Before you send, rewrite at least a few sentences. Some questions to help you think it through:

  • Do we want AUS charging a substantial fee to land?
  • Will this spread to other airports in the area?
  • Will you then be affected — as a student, renter, owner, instructor, or someone who flies in for a meal or a meetup?

Your own story (what you fly, what you'd pay, who you know who's training) is the strongest part. Feel free to cut anything that isn't true for you.

Your email

Edit the text below, then open it in your email app or copy it. It's addressed to District2@austintexas.gov and John.Gallo@FlyAustin.com. The Mayor's office takes messages through a web form — contact the Mayor here and paste the same text.

Remember to replace [Your name] and [Phone or email] before sending. Please double-check the facts and figures against the current fee memo yourself.
